Natural Light; Meditation on Violence in Images
2016 Natural Light is an archive of 23 individual prints, and laser cut wood board made with several different materials and some brief text from Representations of Pain in Art and Culture by James Elkins and Precarious Life: the Obligations of Proximity by Judith Butler. The prints are images taken from video footage of terrorist attacks in Nigeria, Belgium, and American drone strikes in Pakistan. The plates were laser cut and used to emboss paper, the others were made with image transfer onto vellum and heavyweight printing paper. |
Chicago Books
2016 The Chicago Books were made using images I had taken in the months leading up to April 2016. That month an expose of the Homan Square police black site on the west side of Chicago was published internationally, so I took these digital pictures from nearby blocks and made them into photo etched plates, printed them, and bound them in books. These culminate in an image Homan Square appropriated from the newspaper, made into a photo etching and altered. |
